I am a native of Veracruz, México and have been actively involved with the Washington State Latino community for over thirty years. I am fully bilingual and bicultural, and feel comfortable navigating both cultures.
I earned my law degree at the University of Washington School of Law in 1992 and immediately began my legal career as a public defender in Seattle, a position I held until I became the Interim Director of the Child Advocacy Clinic at the University of Washington School of Law. The primary focus of my legal practice is family law and mediation with an emphasis in collaborative divorce, custody, child support, parenting and support modifications, prenuptial agreements, Becca Bill matters, special education, Guardian Ad Litem representation, dependencies and other family related matters.
My philosophy is to provide my clients with the highest quality of legal services in a respectful, compassionate and ethical manner, always encouraging them to consider alternatives to litigation. After years practicing as a litigator, I am convinced that the collaborative approach is a much healthier, wiser alternative, especially for families with children already in distress. I believe that most adults are capable of reaching lasting agreements when given accurate legal information and the assistance of neutral parenting and financial coaches. By offering them a collaborative and mediation model, I help them resolve their conflict, while mitigating their financial and emotional burden.
I am a member of the Association of Criminal Defense Attorneys, the Latino/Latina Bar Association of Washington, the City of Bellevue Mediation Program, the King County Dispute Resolution Center, the International Academy of Collaborative Professionals, the Collaborative Professionals of Washington and the King County Collaborative Law Section. I am licensed to practice in Washington State Courts and in the United States District Court Western District of Washington.
